Clayesmore Prep is a thriving school - one of the few with a growing boarding community. There has been much development in the last two years. Facilities are excellent. An indoor 25m pool, squash courts, purpose built Music School, all-weather floodlit hockey pitch, and beautifully positioned sportsfields complement the colourful and inviting classrooms. Huge emphasis is placed on pastoral care with the Headmaster and his wife playing a full part in the welfare of all the children, but especially the boarders. Children pass from the school via Common Entrance and different types of scholarships to Clayesmore Senior School (on the same site), Bryanston, Canford, Sherborne, Monkton Combe, and other local senior schools. Dyslexic pupils are catered for with an 'all through' approach. Scholarships are available for academically, musically or artistically talented boys and girls, and sporting prowess can also be taken into account. All these areas are major strengths at Clayesmore. The Choir has toured in the USA, Italy - twice, Spain and Germany, and plans to fly to South Africa in 1998. The Concert Band has recently performed in Spain and Italy and, together with the Prep School Choir, enjoys great popularity in the locality.
The school's principal aim is to discover and develop the unique gifts of every girl and boy, and it does this by providing a wealth of opportunity, and through the Tutor system. Many parents say that their children 'cannot wait to get back to school' at the start of term, while others find their child is transformed into a happy, confident and hard-working youngster within a matter of weeks.
The school is particularly proud of its long association with members of HM Forces and offers a number of service bursaries. We well understand the difficulties faced by forces' children and their parents and we have much experience in dealing with airlines. Our own minibuses transport children to and from airports at the beginning and end of every term.
Parents are welcome to visit at any time and are warmly invited to telephone for an appointment to meet the Headmaster and see around the school.
